Broncos charge past the Hurricanes
The Swift Current Broncos scored a bit of payback on the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The Broncos downed the Canes 5-1 to wrap up Western Hockey League preseason play Saturday night in Swift Current.
The win comes 24 hours after the Hurricanes handed the Broncos a decisive 7-0 blanking Friday night at the Enmax Centre.
On Saturday, the Hurricanes struck first on a goal from defenceman Ty Prefontaine late in the first period, but that was their only foray onto the scoresheet as Swift Current rattled off five unanswered goals as Lethbridge finishes the preseason 3-2.
Prefontaine scored on the man advantage with 3:37 left in the first as the Hurricanes carried a 1-0 lead into the second period.
The Broncos power play responded in kind in the second as Alec Zawatsky and Ben King scored on the man advantage for a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Matthew Culling scored two more for Swift Current in the third and former Hurricane Tanner Nagel added the other Bronco goal.
Hurricanes goaltender Carl Tetachuk kicked out 25 of 30 shots as the Broncos outshot the Canes 30-24.
The Hurricanes open the regular season Friday when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7 p.m. and the Enmax Centre.
