Copperheads ready to strike

Lethbridge Herald - - HERALD SPORTS -

The Coaldale Copperheads are back for their 12th Heritage Junior Hockey League season.

Game 1 goes today at 5:30 p.m. as the Copperheads host the High River Flyers at the Coaldale Sportsplex.

The Copperheads were 2410-2 last season to place atop the Southern Division.

They won the Southern Division title and advanced to the championship final, but lost to the Red Deer Vipers in the third-anddeciding game.

However, their season wasn’t over yet as the Copperheads — along with the Vipers — headed north to Fort St. John, B.C. for the Alberta Junior B Provincials, going 1-1-1 at the tournament.

It’s a veteran-laden Copperheads squad that will defend their Southern Division title this season, led by captain Levi Anderson and assistants Chase Williamson, Jayden Smith and Mitchell Konschuk.

The goaltending tandem of Nolan Berner and Andrew Suriano are also back in the crease.

Joining the Copperheads as this year’s head coach is Danton Shigemi. He is joined by assistants Ty Odland, Ryan Colby and goaltender coach Steven Dyck.
