A Fort Macleod man arrested in April following a drug bust in Fort Macleod earlier this year has been handed a short jail sentence for possessing cocaine.

Adrian North Peigan, 36, pleaded guilty Friday in Lethbridge provincial court to one count of drug possession and was sentenced to one day in jail.

Court was told Lethbridge police believed North Peigan was trafficking in drugs, and when they arrested him April 18 at a Fort Macleod residence, they found him in possession of half a gram of cocaine.

Although he was initially charged with three counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of breaching release conditions, the drug charges were downgraded Friday to the single charge of simple possession and the rest of the charges were withdrawn by the Crown.

Similar charges against a co-accused, Katie Natasha Eagle Speaker, 29, of Fort Macleod, were also withdrawn.
