U of L Fall Convocation to­day

Three spe­cial pre­sen­ta­tions are on the pro­gram for cer­e­monies this morn­ing dur­ing convocation events at the Uni­ver­sity of Leth­bridge.

Ven­ture cap­i­tal­ist, phi­lan­thropist and “Dragons Den” TV star Ar­lene Dick­in­son was to have been pre­sented an hon­orary Doc­tor­ate of Laws de­gree dur­ing the cel­e­bra­tory event. At the last mo­ment, how­ever, she’s re­port­edly un­able to at­tend.

But Leth­bridge busi­ness owner Bill Spence­ley, a U of L science grad­u­ate in 1981, will be pre­sented the Dis­tin­guished Alum­nus of the Year award by the U of L Alumni As­so­ci­a­tion.

And Young Alum­nus of the Year recog­ni­tion will go to Bryn Hewko, who earned his Master of Fine Arts de­gree in 2016. He’s since made a name in the cin­e­matic in­dus­try through hisn startup com­pany, Out­put Me­dia.

A to­tal of 249 de­grees, diplo­mas and cer­tifi­cates will also be pre­sented, start­ing at 10 a.m. in the 1st Choice Sav­ings Cen­tre gym­na­sium. Those un­able to at­tend may watch the pro­ceed­ings on­line at
