McKechnie lifts Horns to victory over Cougars
U OF L WOMEN FALL 2-0 TO REGINA
Sam McKechnie’s goal with just over a minute remaining lifted the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns to a 3-2 victory over the University of Regina Cougars in Canada West men’s hockey action Friday in Regina.
It was the first league victory for new Pronghorns head coach Murray Nystrom.
The teams battled through a scoreless first period before the Horns scored the lone goal of the second period by Taylor Fisher.
Horns went up 2-0 7:16 into the third, but the Cougars battled back on goals by Arthur Miller and Tate Coughlin with Couglin’s goal coming with only 1:33 left in the game.
However, McKechnie scored the game-winner 29 seconds later for the Horns’ first win of the Canada West season.
Russell Maxwell had a pair of assists for the Pronghorns, who were outshot 33-31 by the Cougars. Garrett Hughson earned the win in net for U of L.
The teams meet again this afternoon.
Meanwhile at Nicholas Sheran Arena the Pronghorn women were blanked 2-0 by the Regina Cougars.
The teams play again today at 2 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran.
