Case adjourned for men facing drug charges

Two men charged last month following a drug investigation had their charges spoken to in Lethbridge provincial court for the first time since their arrest Aug. 25.

Lawyers appeared in court Thursday for the two accused, Ajit Singh Kahlon of Edmonton and

Sumrath Singh Bindra of Leduc, but simply adjourned the matter until

Oct. 22. Both lawyers told court they were still waiting to receive disclosure from the Crown’s office.

Earlier in the summer officers with the priority crimes unit began a shortterm investigation into specific trafficking activity, and arrested two men following a targeted traffic stop. During a search of the vehicle police seized $7,600 in cash, as well as methamphetamine and cocaine worth more than $5,100.

Police seized the vehicle and later searched a local hotel where they found $500 in cash, considered the proceeds of crime.

Kahlon, 24, and Bindra, 18, were each charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000. They were subsequently released from custody by a justice of the peace on a promise to appear in court.
