MATCHING PETS WITH PEOPLE

-

This public service feature runs each Saturday in the Lethbridge Herald.

Thank you to everyone who supports the Last Chance Cat Ranch. We could not do what we do without the support of our community. We are a registered charity with Revenue Canada and issue tax receipts for donations over $20. Due to COVID-19 we have not been able to do our monthly fundraising at The Hut. We will be doing some online items for auction and sale, just in time for Christmas. We also have our 50/50 raffle online where the lucky winner can win up to $10,000 if we sell all the tickets for $20,000. Thank you to everyone who donated to our bottle drive. Rasputin is a dear boy who came from living a rough life on the streets in Turin. He would love to have his own home. Keep safe... help homeless cats when and where you can. Rescues can only do much with the resources they have, relying on intake Foster homes, which is something you can also do, Fostering for us. Please go to our website at www.thelastchancecatranch.com and www.facebook.com/lastchancecatranch to read about our cats, fundraising, and what we do.

Prince Adam is a large, strikingly handsome black cat, born in April 2016. He came to the Humane Society in the spring of 2017 as a stray. Prince Adam is very comfortable with people but can play a bit too rough for other cats and small children. He loves to get attention from the volunteers and people visiting the cat room. If you are interested in meeting Prince Adam, you can visit him at the Lethbridge Humane Society (2920 16 Ave. N. or call 403-320-8991). To view other Haven pets, go to www.lethbridgehumane society.com and click on the Available Pets link. Also check out the Lethbridge and District Humane Society on Facebook.

The report on Fergus, sir? Yes, I have it here. I could summarize it for you, sir… Fergus is a rather handsome cat, all-white; age, about two years. Found wandering at a gasoline station, but came up to a human of his own accord to ask for help. Intelligent, sir? Yes, I would say he is. He is excellent at surveillance; he watches a situation, its participants, for some time before acting. Yes sir, a good judge of events. He adapts well, fits in to new surroundings without fuss. He doesn’t force himself on anyone, but makes the most of any opportunity. He’d work well on a solo mission, yes sir, but he makes friends easily, so he’d be successful as part of a small team, one or two other cats. He’s experienced in martial arts: I’ve seen him wrestle with other cats — all in good fun, sir; practice, you see; honing their skills. People? Oh, that’s Fergus’s strength, sir. He loves them, and they love him. If we need a cat to infiltrate a human family, Fergus would be the one. He can communicate with people in several languages, sir: purring, head-bumping, cuddling. If you’d like to recruit him for the organization, sir, we can contact PAW at 403-328-6700 or go online at pawsociety.com. Fergus may be the operative we’ve been searching for.

Nelson is approximately 10 years old. He came to us from Coaldale suffering from a horrendous, chemical-type wound on his neck. As a result, his head bobs and his balance is sometimes unstable. He has had entropion surgery on both eyes and one eye required surgery four times. Occasionally he requires eye medication. Nelson is a very sweet boy. He gets along well with most cats but would do fine as an only pet. Unfortunately, we recently found out that despite having a dental in 2019, Nelson is in great need of another one. Donations are gratefully accepted and no amount is too small. Thank you so much to those individuals who have donated to bring our bill at Green Acres Animal Hospital down to $4,400. Call Linda (403-381-9269) or Sam (403-382-0977) of Purrfect Endings Rescue for more information about Nelson. We are also on Facebook.
