L'Etoile - - IN OTHER WORDS -

A 20-year-old man charged with criminal negligence causing death, and dangerous operation of amotor vehicle in connection with the 2007 death of 3-year-old Bianca Leduc was in a Salaberry-de-Valleyfield Youth Court room last week.

The man can not be named because he was aminor at the time of the accident.

During the first day of a three-day trial, court heard from Jacinthe Bégin, who was a caregiver to the girl until her death on October 31, 2007.

Subsequent days included testimony from witnesses, as well as from expert police accident investigators.

The girl’s mother, Nadine Leduc, who is expecting another child, was accompanied in court by members of her family.

Bianca Leduc was killed when two cars, one driven by the young man on trial and one by Brandon Pardi, who turned 18 the day of the accident, bumped each other near a Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot street. The accident caused Pardi’s car to veer onto Bégin’s lawn and into the little girl, who was outside hanging Halloween decorations with her caregiver.

Brandon Pardi, who will be tried as an adult, is scheduled to stand trial beginning November 9.

The young man’s trial is scheduled to resume December 6 and 10.
