Abbott comedy night still a go

Tickets available for Saturday fundraiser

L'Etoile - - IN OTHER WORDS -

A comedy night to benefit John Abbott College's athletics program will still go ahead this weekend, say organizers.

The event is an "important fundraiser" with all proceeds supporting intercollegiate sporting programs.

The second annual Islander Comedy night will be held in the Casgrain gym at John Abbott College on Saturday, November 20.

Montréal comedian Joey Elias will headline at the show that will be emceed by Ali Hassan, Dan Bingham and Jeff Schouela.

AMontréal native, Elias has been working the local comedy scene since 1992. His credits include twelve appearances at the Just for Laughs Festival, including three gala performances and a cross-Canada tour. In addition to touring Canada and the U.S., Elias has traveled to Afghanistan to entertain Canadian troops stationed overseas.

Athletic Director Steve Shaw said he hopes this year's line-up will best the show held last year.

Shaw said rising costs surrounding the school's athletics programs make fundraisers even more important.

Food will be available in the gym and parking is free. For tickets or information call 514 457-6610 ext. 5322. The show will begin at 7 p.m., doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
