Quebec Games underway Friday
Salaberry-de-Valleyfield will be alive with sporting events and fans when the 46th annual Quebec Games debuts this Friday.
The games, for youths under the age of 16, will take place from February 25 to March 5. During that time, more than 3,000 young athletes from across Quebec, and many from Vaudreuil-Soulanges, will compete in a host of winter and indoor sports.
The first portion of the games, running from February 26 to March 1, will include the following sports: wheelchair basket- ball, curling, fencing, gymnastics, women's hockey, synchronized swimming, figure skating, cross country skiing and table tennis.
The second half of the games, being held from March 2 through March 5 will include: badminton, weight lifting, handball, men's hockey, judo, speed skating, diving, ringuette, and alpine skiing. Two demonstration sports, bocce and trampoline, will also be featured.
The Quebec Games will take place at 15 different locations across Salaberry-deValleyfield, Beauharnois and beyond. In addition, cross country skiing events will be held in the region at the Base de Plein Air des Cèdres.
Popular sites for events in Salaberry-deValleyfield include Collège de Valleyfield, the Salaberry Arena, the Civic Centre Arena and école de la Baie-Saint-François.
