Booming start to Saint-lazare winter festival

Pincourt celebration cancelled

L'Etoile - - IN OTHER WORDS -

The Fête des neiges de Saint-lazare kicked-off Saturday with a full day and evening of activities. The festival, running through Feb. 5, got under way with skating, sledding, hockey and more during daylight hours, while scores of residents bundled up at night to take in the annual fireworks display and bonfire, all presided over by Saint-lazare fire fighters.

For information on additional festival events, contact the town’s recreation department at 450 424-8000 ext. 220, or go to ville.saint-la

Meanwhile, the town of Pincourt had to cancel its scheduled one day winter celebration due to poor weather during the week leading up to the event. Simon Grenier, Pincourt director of recreational and community services, said warmer than normal temperatures combined with 12-hours of rain that fell the day before the event made it impossible to set up the town’s park. “We would have ruined the park if we would have brought in backhoes to set up 30 picnic tables,” he explained. There will not be a make-up date for the festival.
