Snow­mo­bi­ler loses life in first such ac­ci­dent of new year

Aman from Saint-té­les­phore was killed last week while dri­ving a snow­mo­bile on a trail in Saint-zo­tique.

Sû­re­té du Qué­bec po­lice say Fa­bien La­voie, 51, lost his life at close to mid­night on Feb. 29 af­ter lo­sing control of his snow­mo­bile. He was pro­noun­ced dead at the hos­pi­tal. La­voie was thrown from the ma­chine by the force of the im­pact. Po­lice, who say the vic­tim was dri­ving along an open field with no trees in the im­me­diate vi­ci­ni­ty, spe­cu­late that ex­ces­sive speed may have been a fac­tor in the ac­ci­dent. La­voie was snow­mo­bi­ling with a friend, who was fol­lo­wing be­hind on his own ve­hicle. This is the first snow­mo­bile death in the region since the be­gin­ning of the year.
