School board work­shop helps pa­rents help stu­dents

The Les­ter B. Pearson School Board's Cen­tral Pa­rents Com­mit­tee will host a free one-day work­shop this wee­kend ai­med at hel­ping pa­rents steer their kids to­ward suc­cess in school. The event, Rai­sing Awareness for Student Suc­cess: The Pa­rent's Role, will be held Sa­tur­day March 31, be­gin­ning at 8:30 a.m.

Or­ga­ni­zers ad­vise pa­rents to "take one day and learn ways to make your child a suc­cess­ful student." Ac­cor­ding to re­search pro­vi­ded by the CPC, chil­dren do best in school when pa­rents and tea­chers work clo­se­ly to­ge­ther. The event will al­low par­ti­ci­pants to chose bet­ween more than 20 work­shops of­fe­red by LBPSB edu­ca­tors, as well as pro­fes­sio­nals from educational ins­ti­tu­tions such as LEARN Quebec, Am­cal Fa­mi­ly Ser­vices, and more. Pa­rents will al­so net­work with other pa­rents, and vi­sit se­ve­ral educational dis­plays.

The free confe­rence will take place at the Pearson Elec­tro­tech­no­lo­gy Centre, 5000, rue Re­né-hu­guet, in La­chine. Re­gis­tra­tion and light re­fresh­ments will get un­der­way at 8:30 a.m. The first work­shop will start at 9:15 a.m.
