Bluegrass BBQ to aid the birds

Le Nichoir still leads national contest

L'Etoile - - IN OTHER WORDS -

It’s an event that’s more than a mouthful but one certain to aid a Hudson bird rehabilitation centre that is also in the lead in the final week of voting in a nationwide popularity contest on social media site Facebook.

The first, 2 Barn Owls Billy Boots Blue Grass BBQ Benefit For the Birds, taking place Saturday in Hudson, will help Le Nichoir Wild Bird Rehabilitation Centre do more of the good works it has done for the past 18 years. The outdoor party will feature works by local artisans, kiosks, music, workshops, chili, beer and more than a little joie de vivre.

Rigaud based micro-brasserie Le Castor will be on hand with locally produced beer, while other area merchants will also provide goodies including vegetarian chili by Everyday Gourmet, mini pulled pork by LeBaron Bites, and coffee and desserts by Que de Bonnes Choses. There will also be demonstrations and workshops, as well as a raffle.

Saturday will also be the final day to vote in Jamieson Vitamins’ contest Call For The Wild! that will see several non-profit organizations across Canada taking home part of a $100,000 grant. Le Nichoir, which was in the lead as of Monday afternoon, is on tap to earn more than $38,000, thanks to the 25,411 votes it had up to that point.

Le Nichoir is dedicated to the ethical care and treatment of injured and orphaned wild birds, and to the birds’ release back into their natural habitat once healed.

The 2 Barn Owls Billy Boots Blue Grass BBQ Benefit For the Birds, taking place rain or shine Sept. 15 from noon to 4 p.m., will be held at 422C, Main street, Hudson.
