Sugar Sammy headlining Islander Comedy Night
An annual comedy night supporting sports programs that is held each year at John Abbott College promises to be even funnier since the English CEGEP scored a visit from current Montreal comedy king Sugar Sammy. The 5th annual Islander Comedy Night will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, in the Casgrain gym at the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue college. The annual night of laughs is a key fundraiser for John Abbott’s intercollegiate athletics programs, said athletic Director Steve Shaw.
“Expenses for our teams continue to rise faster than our revenues. All of our 16 teams are involved in this event, and we are counting on each of our 400 athletes and 65 coaches to sell tickets,” he noted.
Tickets went on sale this week.
Headliner Sugar Sammy will perform a one-hour bilingual show. The man known for his equal opportunity ribbing of Montreal’s cultural and linguistic distinction has been hailed the number one comedian in Quebec. Sugar Sammy does more than 150 performances - in English, French, Hindi and Punjabi - a year in 30 countries. The Hollywood Reporter named him one of top 10 talents to watch in the world of comedy, while Bill Brownstein of the Montreal Gazette said Sugar Sammy’s ‘Franglais’ show is a ‘Montreal sociological experience.... Politics, culture, sports: nothing is sacred for Sammy. He is an equal-opportunity insulter, taking playful stabs at Anglos, Francos and just about every other ethnicity.’
A canteen including pizza from Domino’s and a cash bar will be available in the gym. Parking is free. Reserved tickets start at $50. For online tickets, go to www.brownpapertickets.com, and type John Abbott College Islander Comedy Night in the event search bar, or call the John Abbott College Sports and Recreation Office at 514 457-6610, extension 5322.
Tri-Tool owner Dean Trineer removed all of the debris from the Leduc St. home in 10 hours. After the job was done, all that remains is a concrete slab and steps.
Sugar Sammy, Quebec’s current number one comic, will perform at John Abbott College on Dec. 8. Tickets are on sale to the public now.
