Shop Local success in Hudson
An inaugural initiative that promoted locally made and sold products was a success in Hudson over the holiday shopping season.
The first ever Shop Local & Made Local was held at Centre Décor Hudson on December 15. Event organizers Lea Durocher and Madeleine Langlois, as well as five other participating artists, say they were thrilled by the crowd that came out to support the initiative.
“Everyone had a fabulous day, we will do the event again next year, plus a spring event with a few more surprises in store”, Durocher, owner of Centre Décor Hudson, said.
The event’s goal, she explained, was to emphasize the importance of shopping locally while showcasing original and locally made products. The end result, according to Durocher, encourages and supports artists in the region. The group of seven artists also raffled off a gift basket valued at over $400, which was filled with something from each artist. Among the gift items were hand painted holiday signs by Christine Sherriffs Frohloff, functional stoneware pottery by Jen Baumeister, upcycled creations by Jenna Kroon, a decorative toile pillow made by Joanna Schnittker Olson, aromatherapy products created by Sonia Cirka, gifts and gift certificate from Hudson Centre Décor and photo frames and books of local images by Langlois of Maddylane Photography.
