Pincourt Volunteer Firefighters’ blood drive Thursday
‘Need is constant’
The Pincourt Association of Volunteer Firefighters is hoping people come out in large numbers Thursday to give blood, something they say is constantly needed.
The Jan. 10 blood drive will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Faubourg de l’Île shopping centre, located at 101, boulevard Cardinal-Léger, in Pincourt. Organizers will be setup and ready to receive donors at the site of the former Blockbuster video store.
According to Héma-Québec, donating blood can often make a life or death difference in the lives of sick people. The organization says the specialized bodily fluid is a unique and irreplaceable resource for which science has found no substitute. The need for blood is constant, they add. HémaQuébec statistics show someone in Quebec needs blood every 80 seconds.
Organizers hope to reach a minimum of 125 donors during Thursday’s effort.
Donors must be 18 years old or older and
meet Héma-Quebec’s eligibility criteria.
Who can donate
The blood health agency encourages people to get into the habit of regularly giving blood. According to their website, maintaining a collective blood supply is the responsibility of all Quebecers.
In addition to being of legal age, Héma-Québec will accept donors who are in good health. Donors can give blood six times a year, or every 56 days.
Héma-Québec says it must comply with strict regulations in order to ensure public safety and verify the qualifications of all would-be donors, whether donating whole blood, plasma or platelets.
