Win tickets to see author Charles Foran
Award-winning biographer and novelist Charles Foran will make a special appearance next week during StoryFest, an annual literary festival being held all this month in Hudson. And The Greenwood Centre for Living History is giving away a pair of tickets to see Foran, the author of the much-lauded book Mordecai: The Life & Times.
Foran, a novelist, journalist and Governor-General award-winning biographer will talk about Mordecai Richler during a StoryFest Meet the Author event taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7.30 p.m., at the Hudson Village Theatre
Foran is also expected to touch on the subject of his most recent book, Maurice Richard, and his iconic role in the emergence of a strong Quebec. Foran has served as president of PEN Canada, a group campaigning on behalf of persecuted, imprisoned and exiled writers around the world. He also lived in China in 1989 -1990 and witnessed the democracy movement that culminated in the Tiananmen Square massacre. StoryFest organizers say Foran’s visit will be absorbing and fascinating. Meanwhile, StoryFest will continue tonight when author Emma Donoghue, who is probably best known for her 2010 bestselling novel Room, will give a reading at 7:30 p.m. at the Hudson Village Theatre, located at 28 Wharf Rd. in Hudson.
Also presenting this month will be poet and short story writer Michael Crummey who won numerous awards for his first novel, River Thieves. Crummy will speak at the Village Theatre, at 7:30 p.m., on Oct. 29.
Other StoryFest events include: The Hudson Film Society sponsored screening of the documentary Stories We Tell, by Sarah Polley, on Oct. 28 (two screenings.) The play The Cottage, by Montreal-born playwright and novelist Bonnie Laing, will be performed on Nov. 1 and 2.
