Win ti­ckets to see au­thor Charles Fo­ran

Award-winning bio­gra­pher and no­ve­list Charles Fo­ran will make a spe­cial ap­pea­rance next week during Sto­ryFest, an an­nual li­te­ra­ry fes­ti­val being held all this month in Hud­son. And The Green­wood Centre for Li­ving His­to­ry is gi­ving away a pair of ti­ckets to see Fo­ran, the au­thor of the much-lau­ded book Mor­de­cai: The Life & Times.

Fo­ran, a no­ve­list, jour­na­list and Go­ver­nor-Ge­ne­ral award-winning bio­gra­pher will talk about Mor­de­cai Ri­chler during a Sto­ryFest Meet the Au­thor event ta­king place on Tues­day, Oct. 15, at 7.30 p.m., at the Hud­son Village Theatre

Fo­ran is al­so ex­pec­ted to touch on the sub­ject of his most recent book, Mau­rice Ri­chard, and his ico­nic role in the emer­gence of a strong Que­bec. Fo­ran has ser­ved as pre­sident of PEN Ca­na­da, a group cam­pai­gning on be­half of per­se­cu­ted, im­pri­so­ned and exi­led wri­ters around the world. He al­so li­ved in Chi­na in 1989 -1990 and wit­nes­sed the de­mo­cra­cy mo­ve­ment that culmi­na­ted in the Tia­nan­men Square mas­sacre. Sto­ryFest or­ga­ni­zers say Fo­ran’s vi­sit will be ab­sor­bing and fas­ci­na­ting. Meanw­hile, Sto­ryFest will conti­nue to­night when au­thor Em­ma Do­nog­hue, who is pro­ba­bly best known for her 2010 best­sel­ling no­vel Room, will give a rea­ding at 7:30 p.m. at the Hud­son Village Theatre, lo­ca­ted at 28 Wharf Rd. in Hud­son.

Al­so pre­sen­ting this month will be poet and short sto­ry wri­ter Mi­chael Crum­mey who won nu­me­rous awards for his first no­vel, Ri­ver Thieves. Crum­my will speak at the Village Theatre, at 7:30 p.m., on Oct. 29.

Other Sto­ryFest events in­clude: The Hud­son Film So­cie­ty spon­so­red scree­ning of the do­cu­men­ta­ry Sto­ries We Tell, by Sa­rah Pol­ley, on Oct. 28 (two scree­nings.) The play The Cot­tage, by Mon­treal-born play­wright and no­ve­list Bon­nie Laing, will be per­for­med on Nov. 1 and 2.
