Ni­cholls na­med de­pu­ty lan­guages cri­tic

New as­sis­tant aims to im­prove En­glish com­mu­ni­ty ties

Vau­dreuil-Sou­langes MP Ja­mie Ni­cholls will re­turn to the House of Com­mons to­day in his new role as De­pu­ty of Of­fi­cial Lan­guages Cri­tic for the Of­fi­cial Op­po­si­tion. He will take on the dos­sier with Aca­die-Ba­thurs MP Yvon Godin.

Ni­cholls was na­med to the po­si­tion last Au­gust when NDP lea­der Tom Mul­cair re­shuf­fled his sha­dow ca­bi­net.

And in a bid to help Ni­cholls im­prove his re­la­tion­ship with the Vau­dreuil-Sou­langes An­glo­phone com­mu­ni­ty, the MP has hi­red Hea­ther Mark­graf. Ni­cholls said Mark­graf, who foun­ded the Hudson Vil­lage Theatre in 1992, has strong ties wi­thin the En­glish ar­tis­tic com­mu­ni­ty. “I am convin­ced that she will help me reach a great num­ber of people,” he said in a press re­lease.
