John Abbott staff lead by example during wellness week
More than 350 John Abbott College professors, teachers, support staff and more became students themselves during the English CEGEP’s third annual Wellness Week for employees, which ended Monday.
Annie Tam, a JAC Human Resources Coordinator said the week was developed to help raise employees’ awareness about adopting healthful habits, having regular health screenings and the need to engage in regular physical activity.
Tam said Wellness Week also fostered interdepartmental collaboration and sense of community among staff.
Getting ready for the five day event meant organizers had to plan workshops and activities for more than 700 college employees. Scheduled activities, which ran early in the morning, or during lunch, ranged from reflexology sessions, to health walks, yoga and body composition analysis sessions.
And a health clinic run by the college’s nursing and dental hygiene departments allowed participants to have their blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked, as well as to receive tips on proper dental hygiene practices.
SAQ Île-Perrot director Mario Tremblay, (centre) and employees Stéphanie Lafond, Sylvia Maheux, Soledad Véga, Émilie Dodge, Pierrette Simard and Jacqueline Lalonde presented a donation cheque to VSPCR representatives Sylvie C. Crevier and Richard Mainville.
Many John Abbott College teachers took the opportunity to embrace a healthier lifestyle during the English CEGEP’s third annual Wellness Week, which ended Monday.
