Nez Rouge drivers on the job Friday
Volunteer drivers always needed
Operation Nez Rouge will launch its 30th season Friday in order to give party goers a safe way home this holiday season.
The service that will debut on Friday, Nov. 29 will run each Friday and Saturday for five consecutive weekends from 8 p.m. - 4 a.m. until December 31, 2013.
And volunteers Nez Rouge drivers wearing their distinctive red vests will also be ready to do the driving on Dec. 24, 25 and 31. The annual safe ride campaign that provides those who feel unfit to drive with an alternative to drinking and driving, will take place in 110 communities across Canada, including Vaudreuil-Dorion, where the Nez Rouge headquarters will be set up at the L’Actuel volunteer centre.
And Nez Rouge organizers are always looking for volunteers willing to give their time, whether for a few hours or several evenings. All volunteers must fill out an application form and undergo a screening process. After the screening volunteer drivers are put into teams meaning those who call for the service are never alone with just one volunteer. To fill out a volunteer form go to the Nez Rouge website at http://operation nezrouge.com, or go to the VaudreuilDorion Headquarters, located at the Centre d’action bénévole L’Actuel, 88 rue Adèle in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The local effort can be reached by calling 450 455-3331. To call for a ride in the region from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., as of Nov. 29, dial 450 424-4011, or 1-866Desjardins. Volunteer Nez Rouge drivers do not charge for the service they provide, though all donations are accepted and go toward youth and sport programs in each region.
