Pearson board hosting girls’ empowerment workshop series
Event open to women of all ages
Aworkshop series for girls, moms and even grandmothers promises to give females of all ages a chance to learn about a wide range of topics.
“We wanted to provide girls and women the opportunity to broaden their knowledge with topics that could affect all females sometime during the lives,” said Nan Beaton, a Pearson Educational Foundation board member, which, along with the Lester B. Pearson School Board’s Central Parents’ Committee, is hosting Girls’ Date Out.
The event will take place Feb. 8 at Lindsay Place High School in Pointe-Claire.
The day will include 15 workshops, a lunch-time fashion show, vendor kiosks and more.
And keynote speaker Melinda Atkinson, an entrepreneur since the age of 14, will present ‘The Search Within,‘ a motivational talk encouraging girls and women to live a life of purpose and meaning.
Meanwhile, event workshops will in- clude: Welcome to the World of Tattoo and Piercing; Strong Girls to Wise Women; What’s Happening to Me?; Interior Decorating and Display; Your Life, Your Brand, Your Business; Party Planning; Welcome to the World of Acting; Winter Tips for Healthy Skin and Hair - Create your own skin and hair products; Personal Safety; Welcome to the World of Fashion; Scrapbooking; Communication Skills for Young Women; Sommellerie and Wine tasting (must be 18 and up); Acne and Adolescence; Lace Up Your Running Shoes and Get Healthy.
Participants must register. Tickets to the event cost $25 for adults, $15 for students. Box lunches will be available for purchase. Girls’ Date will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 8, at Lindsay Place High School, 111 Broadview avenue in Pointe-Claire.
