Pincourt Winterfest Saturday

Free skiing during festivities

L'Etoile - - IN OTHER WORDS -

Pincourt will host its annual Winterfest Saturday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Olympique Park. The Feb. 1 event that’s part of the Plaisirs d’hiver program sponsored by Loisir et Sport Montérégie and KinoQuébec, aims to entice residents to get outside and enjoy the chilly fun. Organizers say they have planned a wide range of free activities including: skating on the Olympique Park ice oval and hockey rinks, snow tubing, snow volleyball games, horse drawn sleigh rides, as well as the chance to enjoy several ice sculptures. And kids’ events will include kite flying, animation, inflatable games, pedal go-karts, mascots and dog-sleigh rides. Meanwhile, a scouts’ winter camp and the trapper’s exhibition will be set up, while icefishing fans will be transported by sleigh to an ice-fishing shack at Bellevue Park.

Winterfest revelers will be able to park in the Omni-Centre parking lot, 375, boulevard Cardinal-Léger, or on neighbouring streets. The chalet at the municipal swimming pool on Olympique Blvd. will be open during the event for those wanting to put on their skates.

Free cross country skiing

And for one day only, Pincourt residents will be able to go cross country skiing free of charge Saturday on trails groomed by Les Skieurs de l’Île. The trails can be accessed from des Frênes St., from the corner of Boulevard de l’Île and du Suroît St., and from Forest Ave. near the Centre de Golf Pincourt. And while skiers are asked to bring their own equipment, Centre NotreDame de Fatima does offer equipment rentals. Participants should remember that dogs are prohibited on all Skieurs de l’Île trails. Organizers say if the festival is cancelled due to poor weather or site conditions, it will not be rescheduled because of limited supplier availability. A final decision concerning the weather will be made on Friday.
