Search is on for St. Paddy’s Parade Queen
The search for a new Queen of the Irish is on, and organizers of Hudson’s 5th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade say applicants have until Feb. 24 to submit their names for consideration for queen of the parade, or to be part of the royal court.
The parade committee officially opened the selection of the Queen this week. The job, which promises to be filled with fun and celebration, is open to women from the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region who are between the ages of 18 and 30-years-old. Applicants should be of some Irish descent.
Judges say they are looking for a queen who is confident, comfortable with public speaking, one who is involved in the community and someone who can engage people.
Candidates will be asked to answer one or two questions, which will be provided beforehand, on the selection night, taking place at 6 p.m on March 2, at Auberge Willow Place Inn, situated at 208, rue Main, in Hudson.
Possible queens must be willing to participate in parade related events during the month of March, including the Hudson parade, taking place on March 15. The queen will also participate in the Montreal St. Patrick’s Day parade, being held the day after the Hudson event, on March 16.
But those ready to apply for more than one queenly job in the region must make a choice, as parade executives say the queen and her court can not accept similar positions in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges MRC in 2014.
Up next will be the selection of the Irishman of the Year. It is not clear if a similar public selection processes and question period will be staged for the selection of the Irishman of the Year. It was announced earlier this month that Montreal comedian Joey Elias will preside over the parade as Grand Marshall. And tickets, $55, to a Grand Marshall Comedy Roast, which is open to guests 18-years and up and which will include an Italian buffet and the comedy roast, are selling now. The dinner and comedy roast will take place on Friday, February 21 at the Whitlock Golf and Country Club, located at 128, côte Saint-Charles, in Hudson. The evening will be hosted by DJ McCarthey. To reserve, call 514 457-0080, or 450 458-2122.
Meanwhile, groups and organizations wanting to participate in the March 15 parade can register by completing an application form at the parade’s Website. To apply for the parade queen or court, or for Irishman of the Year, go to:www.hudson parade.com.
