Elvis tribute show heading for Hudson
Award winning impersonator brings King to life
Hudson will be inundated with Elvis mania when The Hudson Village Theatre brings Blue Suede Shoes: The King, The Colonel, The Memories to the professional theatre from June 18 to 29.
The Canadian C2 Entertainment touring show that has been a hit since it opened in 2011 stars Roy Leblanc, winner of the Las Vegas 2003 World’s Best Elvis Competition, and Chris McHarge as Colonel Tom Parker. Billed as an energetic homage to the iconic music legend, the show is a two-hour journey covering 45 Elvis songs.
Reviewers have said that Leblanc as Presley gives audiences a chance to relive the songs that made Elvis the world’s most beloved performer. “Leblanc IS Elvis Presley and that alone is reason enough to buy a ticket ... Leblanc brings more than the voice and the mannerisms. He is the heart and soul that endeared millions of fans that remain loyal to this day,” Eric Bunnell of the Times-Journal wrote.
The revue show is also said to be a consistent hit with sold-out audiences. David Nairn, Artistic Director of Theatre Orangeville, just north of Toronto, said “Blue Suede Shoes is a license to print money!” When a full two-week run at Port Dover’s (Lake Erie) Lighthouse Festival Theatre sold out before the show had even opened, Administrative Director, Helen Wagenaar, added two additional performances which also sold out within days. “We then added a third show,” Wagenaar said, “and it sold out almost immediately.”
Blue Sued Shoes tells the tale of Presley’s meteoric rise to fame through the eyes of Colonel Tom Parker, the King’s lifelong business manager who is brought to life by director and co-creator Chris McHarge.
The retrospective covers Elvis’s career including his early days at Sun Records, the RCA Victor years and his stint in the army. Elvis’s many Hollywood films, as well as the unplugged, leather-clad comeback special, and his grandiose Vegas spectacles are also depicted. The show featuring more than a dozen costume changes is performed with a live band featuring Musical Director and Cocreator Colin Stewart on bass, Dean Harrison on keyboards, John Kenny on guitar and Ted Peacock playing drums.
The run that will include matinee and evening performances is part of the HVT professional summer lineup. The theatre is situated at 28, Wharf Rd. For showtimes or tickets, call the box office at 450 458-5361, or go to www.villagetheatre.ca.
