Town searching for best pie makers
Officials in Saint-Lazare want to know who among the equestrian municipalities’ nearly 20,000 residents makes the best pie in town?
Those willing to put their pastry to the test are encouraged to participate in an annual contest being held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 19 in the town hall parking lot, during the weekly Farmer’s Market.
The contest will be judged by a panel of discerning pie tasters comprised of members of the town council and administration, as well as “specialists,” according to an official invitation. It is open to all residents 18-years and older. Children can participate as long as an adult is willing to accompany the child. Bakers must be willing to attend the event and be on hand during the judging. All pies, which will be judged based on taste, presentation and originality, will be tasted by the judges as well as by spectators. Two winners will receive gift baskets filled with goodies from the Saint-Lazare Farmer’s Market valued at $100 each. They will also represent SaintLazare in a regional pie contest taking place on Aug. 21 in Les Cèdres.
Participants must complete an online registration form by Aug. 19 which is available on the town’s website at: www.ville.saint-lazare.qc.ca/en/concours.
