Ka­neh­sa­take hos­ting tra­di­tio­nal pow­wow this wee­kend

The 6th an­nual Ka­neh­sa­take Pow­wow will take place over three days star­ting Fri­day and or­ga­ni­zers are ta­king the time to roll out the welcome mat to those li­ving “across the ri­ver,” too. The cul­tu­ral event will be­gin on Aug. 29 with a So­cial being held from 7 p.m.-9 p.m., while the tra­di­tio­nal pow­wow will get un­der­way at noon on Aug. 30 and 31 with Host Drum Sto­ny Bear, from Cape Bre­ton. Bright Cloud Deer from Ka­neh­sa­take will serve as the head male dan­cer, while Apu­ti Win­ter Dox­ta­tor from Onei­da will be the head fe­male dan­cer. Or­ga­ni­zers say al­co­hol and drugs will not be per­mit­ted on or around the pre­mises, while pets are al­so pro­hi­bi­ted. Craft and food ven­dors will of­fer their goods and ser­vices, and tent cam­ping for the wee­kend is pos­sible. The pow­wow will be held at the Mo­hawk Band Coun­cil of Ka­neh­sa­take, 681 Rang Ste.
