Holiday craft fairs aplenty this weekend and next
A sure sign —SAINT-LAZARE the holidays are just around the corner is the plethora of craft fairs taking place throughout the region this weekend and next.
The local fairs are an opportunity to purchase unique, handmade goods, gifts, clothing, jewellery and decor items. They are also a chance to not only buy local while supporting regional artisans and groups, but to ensure your gifts will be one-of-a-kind. For craft fair enthusiasts, this weekend could aptly be called “the big show,” thanks to the large number of events taking place. They include the following:
NOV. 26 & 27 - WESTWOOD
JR. HIGH SCHOOL, SAINTLAZARE
The 15th annual Winter Wonderland Craft Fair will be held at Westwood Jr. High School in Saint-Lazare. The event, hosted by the Westwood Home & School Association, will run from 10 a.m. -3 p.m., on Nov. 26 & 27, at the school that is situated at 2800 du Bordelais, in Saint Lazare. The popular fair will see more than 40 merchants filling the school’s gymnasium. In addition, the Home & School always hosts an impressive baked goods table, with many freezable items, as well as a “mile long” raffle table, with more than 40 baskets. Goods up for grabs include home decorations, body care products, clothing, sporting goods and accessories, as well as gift certificates donated by local merchants. Organizers say this year’s raffle will be the biggest in the event’s history.
Meanwhile, there will be a used book sale, as well as the sale of used CDs, DVDs and board games. Proceeds will support literacy, sport and cultural projects. Book sale proceeds will go directly to the libraries.
Donations of books, food, gifts and gift certificates will be accepted at the school until fair time. For information call Monique Pannitti at 514-402-2943.

The fair is the brainchild of the Westwood Sr. High School International Development Program, IDP. The effort sees a group of students travel each year to a developing country to undertake community projects. Students, who must work collectively to raise funds for the trip, will help build classrooms in Honduras in March.
