Ho­li­day craft fairs aplen­ty this wee­kend and next


A sure si­gn —SAINT-LA­ZARE the ho­li­days are just around the cor­ner is the ple­tho­ra of craft fairs ta­king place throu­ghout the re­gion this wee­kend and next.

The lo­cal fairs are an op­por­tu­ni­ty to pur­chase unique, hand­made goods, gifts, clo­thing, je­wel­le­ry and de­cor items. They are al­so a chance to not on­ly buy lo­cal while sup­por­ting re­gio­nal ar­ti­sans and groups, but to en­sure your gifts will be one-of-a-kind. For craft fair en­thu­siasts, this wee­kend could apt­ly be cal­led “the big show,” thanks to the large num­ber of events ta­king place. They in­clude the fol­lo­wing:

NOV. 26 & 27 - WESTWOOD


The 15th an­nual Win­ter Won­der­land Craft Fair will be held at Westwood Jr. High School in Saint-La­zare. The event, hos­ted by the Westwood Home & School As­so­cia­tion, will run from 10 a.m. -3 p.m., on Nov. 26 & 27, at the school that is si­tua­ted at 2800 du Bor­de­lais, in Saint La­zare. The po­pu­lar fair will see more than 40 mer­chants filling the school’s gym­na­sium. In ad­di­tion, the Home & School al­ways hosts an im­pres­sive ba­ked goods table, with ma­ny free­zable items, as well as a “mile long” raffle table, with more than 40 bas­kets. Goods up for grabs in­clude home de­co­ra­tions, bo­dy care pro­ducts, clo­thing, spor­ting goods and ac­ces­so­ries, as well as gift cer­ti­fi­cates do­na­ted by lo­cal mer­chants. Or­ga­ni­zers say this year’s raffle will be the big­gest in the event’s his­to­ry.

Meanw­hile, there will be a used book sale, as well as the sale of used CDs, DVDs and board games. Pro­ceeds will sup­port li­te­ra­cy, sport and cul­tu­ral pro­jects. Book sale pro­ceeds will go di­rect­ly to the li­bra­ries.

NOV. 26 & 27 - HUD­SON


The Hud­son Ch­rist­mas Craft Fair will take place from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., on Nov. 26 & 27, at the Ste­phen F. Shaar Com­mu­ni­ty Centre, lo­ca­ted at 394 Main Rd., in Hud­son. In ad­di­tion to crafts tables, there will be live mu­sic (noon - 1 p.m.) a ca­fé for lunch or snacks, as well as a raffle table. The fair is the brain­child of the Westwood Sr. High School In­ter­na­tio­nal De­ve­lop­ment Pro­gram, IDP. The ef­fort sees a group of stu­dents tra­vel each year to a de­ve­lo­ping coun­try to un­der­take com­mu­ni­ty pro­jects. Stu­dents, who must work col­lec­ti­ve­ly to raise funds for the trip, will help build class­rooms in Hon­du­ras in March.



The first an­nual Saint La­zare Ch­rist­mas Mar­ket will get un­der­way from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Nov. 26, and from 10 a.m. 4 p.m., on Nov. 27, at the Saint La­zare Com­mu­ni­ty Centre, 1301, rue du Bois. Town of­fi­cials say more than 40 ex­hi­bi­tors of­fe­ring a host of unique items such as crafts, wood, pain­ted items, je­wel­le­ry, gifts and de­co­ra­tions, clo­thing, pot­te­ry, pho­to­gra­phy, bo­dy care, and more, will par­ti­ci­pate in what they hope will be­come a year­ly mar­ket. Meanw­hile, Jean Wul­le­man, a pas­try and cho­co­late ma­ker from Comp­toir de Bruxelles will par­ti­ci­pate, as will Thier­ry Ju­vien, a pas­try ba­ker from Ar­ti­san du ter­roir. And youn­ger vi­si­tors will get to meet ho­li­day elves, or en­joy sleigh rides and hot cho­co­late. Other fa­mi­ly ac­ti­vi­ties will be avai­lable for Saint-La­zare re­si­dents.

NOV. 26 & 27 ST.-PA­TRICK



St. Pa­trick of the Is­land Pa­rish will host their Ch­rist­mas Ba­zaar from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 26, and from 10 a.m. - noon on Nov. 27, at the church, lo­ca­ted at 278, Sham­rock Rd. in Pincourt. Or­ga­ni­zers say vi­si­tors will be able to per­use a selection of Ch­rist­mas crafts, home ba­king, and a White Ele­phant table. Lunch will al­so be avai­lable for pur­chase.


AQUINAS CHURCH, HUD­SON The Saint Tho­mas La­dies Auxi­lia­ry’s Ch­rist­mas & Craft Sale will run from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., on Dec. 3. Tables will in­clude crafts, ho­li­day de­co­ra­tions, knit­wear and an al­ways po­pu­lar ba­ked goods table. Do­na­tions of all ba­king and pre­serves, as well as crafts, knit­ting and white ele­phant items will be ac­cep­ted. Do­na­tions can be drop­ped off from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 30, and from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., on Dec. 2. The sale will be held in Reid Hall in St. Tho­mas Aquinas Church, 413, Main Rd., Hud­son.
