20 years young!
It was 1987 when Dorothy Dobbie began Manitoba Gardener from her basement. Staff was minimal, and a mistake by the printer had the first issue printed entirely in bold, something Dorothy still shakes her head at with laughter today. But even with the printing error, readers were ecstatic, and by the second issue, Manitoba Gardener had 3,000 paid subscribers and was on newsstands throughout the city and province.
Fast forward 20 years and Manitoba Gardener is still going strong. Our purpose has remained the same, to share gardening advice that is suitable to our climate with passionate gardeners like ourselves — and to share the beauty of our province with everyone.
