Marlins rake in medals in Red Deer

Medicine Hat News - - SPORTS -

It’s time to make headway if you’re a swimmer, and several did just that this past weekend in Red Deer.

At the Catalina Valentine Invitational, Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club athletes combined for a ton of podium finishes. With zones later this month in Calgary and provincials next month in Edmonton, getting faster might be more important than gold, silver or bronze — but the medals certainly don’t hurt.

Emily Schlenker led the medal haul with five gold and a silver. Delrae Vetter had six medals, including three gold, a silver and two bronze. Parker Maxwell also came home with six, one win plus five third-place finishes. And both Brandt Swaren and Kristin Hollingworth earned two gold apiece, with Swaren adding a bronze.

Other medalists were Amos Rus-Haicu, Munro Maxwell, Derian Swaren and Elizabeth Bowey.

Eleven Marlins will be at zones Feb. 25 and 26.
