With four weeks down for contestants of Classic Loser 7, the group has lost more than 100 pounds combined, and is putting forth a very strong effort, says trainer Todd Schneider.

The contestants have embarked on weekly workout schedules, meal plans and group workout sessions, and Schneider says the group has started to take on the challenge of a new lifestyle.

“The contestants are really embracing the lifestyle change,” he said. “We’re really hammering home that this is a new lifestyle, not just a diet, but a new way of living a healthier life.”

Through the first third of the challenge, contestants are not putting up record-setting numbers, but are steadily shedding off the pounds, which is all that matters says Schneider.

“On average people are losing two or three pounds each week, some a little more and some a little less, but this year the contestants are really working hard, and working consistently,” he said. “Some of the numbers may not be the highest we’ve ever seen, but these people are on a downward trend in weight, and that’s what we want to see.”

While contestants are putting up good numbers, some of them are running into setbacks, which Schneider says is up to the trainers to help each contestant deal with.

“Real life happens to these people, just like everyone else,” he said. “We’ve seen work cut in, a death in the family and these things hinder the contestant’s ability to lose weight, but that’s why the trainers are here — we’re trying to give everyone the tools to live that healthy lifestyle.”

This year’s contest, like every other year, has had a few people call it quits says Schneider, which is nothing out of the ordinary.

“Every year we have a few dropouts,” he said. “We really try to help people avoid dropping out or dodging the scale, but it is something that happens.”
