Friends of the Monarch hosting Margarita Mardi Gras party on March 24

-

The Society of the Friends of the Monarch Theatre is holding its first ever Margarita Mardi Gras night March 24 at the Beveridge Landmark Events building.

The event runs from 6-10 p.m. and tickets are $50. Included in the cost is a margarita glass, beads, a mask, food and some margarita samples.

There will be live entertainment, a silent auction and other prizes available to those attending. Organizer Lorraine Dalla-Longa says her and the rest of the society is looking forward to the first annual event.

“This is really exciting for us to hold for the community, it really is something different for the city,” she said. “We’re trying to do something fun for everyone interested in this kind of thing.”

Dalla-Longa says the group is aiming to raise a few thousand dollars, all of which will go back into the Monarch Theatre.

“That theatre is 106 years old, and is really an important historical landmark in our city,” she said. “We’re trying to get the money to put into things like roof repairs, updating the bathrooms and other things like paint — it’s an old building, there’s always something that will need an upgrade.”

Dalla-Longa says she is hoping everyone at the event will “dress for the occasion,” in their finest Mardi Gras apparel.
