Fire at Saska­toon chem­i­cal plant quickly con­tained

SASKA­TOON A fire at a chem­i­cal plant in Saska­toon has been con­tained.

As­sis­tant fire chief Wayne Rodger says they got a call just af­ter 4 a.m. Mon­day af­ter a se­cu­rity per­son no­ticed flames com­ing from a smoke­stack at Akzo No­bel Chem­i­cals Ltd. .

Rodger says a tank of fuel ad­di­tives had ig­nited.

He says the chem­i­cal inside the tank is com­bustible, so they can’t just open the tank.

He says they are us­ing an­other method to cool down the chem­i­cal, but that will take sev­eral hours. No one was in­jured. Dam­age es­ti­mates and the cause of the blaze have yet to be de­ter­mined.
