Toronto’s El­gin and Win­ter Gar­den Theatre Cen­tre hosts the world’s largest col­lec­tion of ex­tant vaude­ville scenery.

Closed for decades, the dou­ble-tiered theatre, which opened in 1913, un­der­went an ex­ten­sive ren­o­va­tion in 1987, which is when the

hand-painted lats and drops, some of which dated back to its opening, were dis­cov­ered. (It re­opened in 1989.)

A num­ber of the re­stored pieces are on dis­play at the Theatre Cen­tre, in­clud­ing the But­ter ly and Scarab Scenery Flats.
