Toronto’s Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre hosts the world’s largest collection of extant vaudeville scenery.
Closed for decades, the double-tiered theatre, which opened in 1913, underwent an extensive renovation in 1987, which is when the
hand-painted lats and drops, some of which dated back to its opening, were discovered. (It reopened in 1989.)
A number of the restored pieces are on display at the Theatre Centre, including the Butter ly and Scarab Scenery Flats.
