Black hole found
The idea of a black hole — a region of space-time so dense that nothing, not even light, can escape it — has been around for centuries. But it was University of Toronto researcher Charles Thomas Bolton who offered irrefutable proof of its existence in 1972.
Cygnus-x1 was the designation given to the interstellar phenomenon, which lies at the centre of our galaxy.
Bolton was later elected a member of the Royal Society of Canada.
