Sportscasters have been throwing to tape for more than 50 years. But the practice of instant replay got its farfrom-instant start in Canada.
It was during Hockey Night in Canada’s 1955-1956 season that CBC producer George Retzlaff introduced a “wetfilm” technique to record and play back a goal, albeit several minutes after it happened.
American network CBS introduced true instant replay in 1963 during an Army-navy football game.
