Cre­ated in 1969 by Cal­gary bar­tender Max Chell, the Cae­sar es­sen­tially spiked the Bloody Mary with clam-in­fused tomato juice (hence Motts’ Clam­ato) and other spices. A Clam­a­to­com­mis­sioned poll in 2009 (the bevvie’s 40th an­niver­ary) con­cluded that the Cae­sar was Canada’s most pop­u­lar cock­tail.
