Take an underground journey through time
Experience ottawa’s new lrt station in all its glory
One of the most highly anticipated Signature Events on Ottawa 2017’s yearlong calendar of activities in and around the Capital is Kontinuum, a state of the art, underground multimedia experience in the home of the future LRT Lyon Station.
“This is the most complex project ever in my career,” admits Guy Laflamme, Executive Director of the Ottawa 2017 Bureau. “It’s also the very first idea that I proposed when I took on this role.”
In order to turn Laflamme’s vision into reality, the bureau partnered with Montreal’s Moment Factory, who he says has delivered in a big way.
“It was as if they had gone into my brain and could understand perfectly the vision I had and what I was looking for as a show,” he says, adding it was the thrill of his career to be a part of the creative process.
“Sitting down with some of the most creative multimedia artists in the world at Moment Factory, three of whom are from Ottawa — Ian Macdonald, the lighting designer who created a big portion of the show, Vincent Letellier who composed all of the audio for the experience and Sakchin Bessette, one of the co-founders of Moment Factory and is a brilliant creator. The artistic and emotional connection I had with that team was unbelievable. It’s such a thrill to have had the chance to work with those creative, brilliant minds and just go wild together.”
Laflamme says Kontinuum is a world first that will serve as a unique way of galvanizing people’s support for the future light rail Confederation Line.
“Nobody else in the world has ever developed something that comes close to Kontinuum. It’s a world first in terms of having such an extensive, underground, multi-media production,” he explains.
