Wind-whipped wildfires sweep through California
More than a dozen wildfires whipped by powerful winds swept through California wine country Monday, destroying at least 1,500 homes and businesses and sending an estimated 20,000 people on a flight to safety through smoke and flames. One person was killed in a fire further north, in Mendocino County. The state’s fire chief called the damage estimates for the fire in the wine country conservative and said the fires were burning throughout an eight-county swath of Northern California.
Google uncovers ads by russian operatives: report
Russian operatives spent tens of thousands of dollars on ads across Google products, including Youtube and Google search, according to reports. The Washington Post is reporting that Google uncovered the Russian-backed disinformation campaign as it considers whether to testify before Congress. Social media companies Facebook and Twitter have agreed to testify. The report said the company discovered the Russian presence by siphoning data from Twitter.
