Two adults, two children killed in house fire
Police say victims were two adults and two children
A fire ripped through a multiunit house in downtown Oshawa Monday morning, claiming the lives of four people.
Their identities haven’t been officially released but neighbours said it was Bonchek, two of her children — five-year old Jackson and 10-year-old Maddie — and another adult, Steven Macdonald, who had run into the house in an attempt to save others.
Three other residents of the building were taken to the hospital. Up to 11 may have been living in the house.
Laura Green, who could see the house from her backyard, said she was outside smoking with her husband when the fire broke out.
“We heard a big bang and … saw a flash and people coming out of the house screaming ‘fire’ in a total panic,” Green said. “We saw the whole thing go up in flames. It was horrific.”
Neighbours identified three of the dead as, from left, Lindsey Bonchek, and her children Jackson and Maddie.
