THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF OCTOPUS CITIES:
1) a hard surface, and 2) plentiful food. These basic elements are found at both Octlantis and Octopolis — the only other cephalopod city ever found. Discovered in 2009, Octopolis was thought to be a freak occurrence because octopuses built it on top of a humanmade chunk of metal on the sea loor. The discovery of Octlantis disproved this. Why would octopuses choose to live in cities? That’s a topic for future study.
