Convicted sex offender to live in Winnipeg

Metro Canada (Winnipeg) - - WINNIPEG -

A convicted sex offender was released from Headingley Correctional Institution Dec. 23, according to the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit. Winston Thomas is expected to live in Winnipeg.

Thomas, 37, is being released after serving his five- month sentence for breaching his probation terms. He didn’t follow his curfew and was found by police intoxicated the next day.

Thomas was previously charged with sexual assault in 2007 when Thomas and two other men met a 13- year- old girl at a shopping centre. They took her to a residence, gave the girl liquor and marijuana, and then prevented her from leaving. Thomas then sexually assaulted the victim and was arrested a short time later.

Once released, Thomas must follow the conditions of his probation order: no possession or consumption of alcohol, illegal or non- prescription drugs, and strict adherence to a curfew.
