“Racing fans and auto enthusiasts in Winnipeg shed a tear when the first snowflake is scheduled to fall,” said Speedworld operations manager Briget Marciniak. “It usually means that the summer car gets put into storage and the season of car shows, club and drag races are done for the season.”

But luckily for go-kart racers, Speedworld is open year-round for high-speed entertainment and training. According to Marciniak, the track stays busy during the winter months with club teams wanting to keep their skills sharp and spend time with teammates and friends.

“I think groups like the league-style racing because it keeps the club united over the winter months,” Marciniak said. “The racing is a fun way to have a social gathering on a regular basis and get people more involved in their club.”

The league-style racing has become so popular that the track now hosts a seasonal racing series where drivers can participate as part of a team or individually to earn points towards prizes.

On Nov. 16, Speedworld will host the Manitoba Karting Association (MKA) Annual General Meeting. MKA President Mario Bovino said the location is perfect for the annual gathering.

“The location is centrally located with lots of parking and racing at the track is popular with our members,” Bovino said.

Marciniak and her staff are busy booking upcoming holiday parties, as well as the regular team windups, club meetings and birthdays. According to her, the spot is a hit for groups that want to do something out of the ordinary but also exciting and fast-paced.

“Our private room is a great place (for events),” Marciniak said. “With seating for up to 30 people it is big enough for most organizations.”

And when it comes to the main event, the track can accommodate groups anywhere from six to 60 racers.

The fall racing series runs every Monday night starting at 7 p.m. and is open to anyone with a driver’s license. For more information or to book an event contact Speedworld at 204-772-5278 or email info@speedworld.ca.
