In a stunning case of better late than never, Toronto City Council has approved a plan to allow people to pay for parking with their cellphones. Customers will simply have to register their licence plate and payment information with the Toronto Parking Authority and then use their cellphone to call in
where they have parked and the time required. Apparently, the system will be implemented in 130 city-owned Green P lots this summer, and onstreet spots in 2015.
Toronto’s musical community lost a true innovator last month with the passing of groundbreaking musician Jeff Plewman, a.k.a. Nash the Slash. Known for his trademark performance attire — bandaged face, sunglasses, tuxedo and top hat — Plewman achieved his greatest mainstream success with the band FM. But his pioneering atmospheric music and his work as a film composer illustrate a complex and truly visionary artist of rare quality.
Two feuding Forest Hill couples made news last week in what has been dubbed the “poop-and-scoop” case. The story was notable as a result of the scolding both couples involved in the case received from the judge, who was dismissive of the incidents in question, including one neighbour allegedly depositing a bag of dog feces into the other neighbour’s garbage bin. Apparently, the judge strongly suggests our court system might not be the best place to settle such petty disagreements. Why can’t we all just get along?
