Man wanted for 18 break-and-enters
Suspect stole items from storage lockers in midtown condos
A 23-year-old Toronto male suspect is wanted for multiple break-ins into condo building storage lockers across midtown.
Caroline de Kloet, corporate communications officer with the Toronto Police Service (TPS), said the suspect has broken into condo buildings on Roehampton Avenue east of Yonge Street, Balliol Street, near Redpath Avenue and Broadway Avenue and on McAlpine Street.
“It is alleged that he breaks into the fire box located in the lobby of most buildings (a fire code requirement) and steals the fire key. He would then use the stolen key to access the building,” she wrote in an email to Post City.
According to de Kloet, from there it is alleged that he would proceed underground to the storage lockers and break into individual units to steal anything of value, including bicycles, guitars and luggage.
The suspect was caught on several different surveillance cameras in each building, and his photo has been posted on the TPS website.
He is wanted for 18 counts of break-and-enter, six counts of theft under $5,000, 19 counts of fail to comply with probation, three counts of trespassing at night, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, failure to attend court and attempt to commit indictable offence.
He is also wanted for three counts of mischief, due to the damage done to each building’s fire box.
Police began searching for the suspect as of Jan. 21 this year, and TPS has requested the public’s assistance in locating him. Anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.
