Respect on the road is a two-way street

- letters@montrealgazette.com

Dear drivers: I’m a cyclist on the streets of Montreal. I just want to ask you to keep your distance.

Maybe you think I’m too far from parked cars, but there’s a reason: Drivers often don’t look before opening their door. Too many accidents happen this way.

And another favour: Please put your turn signals on. That way I can anticipate your next move and get out of your way. By the way, I obey stop lights and stop signs, and don’t cycle on the sidewalk or in the wrong direction on a one-way path.

And thanks to all the drivers who show courtesy on the road. We need to take care of each other, and respect each other’s choice of transportation. Share the road, as they say. Karine Ouellette, Montreal
