7,500 drivers pulled over on Easter weekend
More than 7,500 drivers were pulled over during the Easter holiday, the Sûreté du Québec reports, including 5,259 drivers who were going too fast. Officers also stopped people for reckless driving, not wearing seatbelts, or for driving while distracted.
Excessive speed remains the No. 1 cause of fatal accidents, the SQ said in a statement.
Police arrested 127 people for impaired driving — either because of alcohol or drugs — the SQ said.
Despite numerous operations, the provincial police force reported there were 1,000 collisions in their territory. People were injured in 176 of those accidents; one was fatal.
