RESEARCHERS STUDY BRAIN CANCER CELLS USING DNA CODING

Montreal Gazette - - CANADA -

A Canadian-led research team is using a “barcoding” system to investigate the growth patterns of cells that make up the deadliest form of brain cancer, glioblastoma, with the hopes of improving treatment. Research led by the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and the U.K.’s University of Cambridge is tagging every cell with a different DNA barcode. The researchers found only a small proportion of the barcoded cells could give rise to long-term tumour growth, suggesting many tumours contain cells that cannot multiply.
