Bill 62: Liberals playing with fire

Montreal Gazette - - OPINION -

On two prior occasions — Bill 22 on language and on constitutional reform — past Liberal governments in Quebec have made an effort to appeal to and appease Quebec nationalists.

In both cases, the nationalists, led by the PQ, argued that the Liberal proposals did not go far enough, and were successful in playing identity politics to defeat the Liberals.

Bill 62 risks stirring up the hornet’s nest once again. With the rise of separatist movements in Europe, the Quebec Liberals are once again playing with fire. Those who forget the past are condemned to relive it.
