Picking wrong lane in a race can cost victory

Athletes running in inner and middle lanes in 200and 400-metre sprints could be losing because of the tighter turns. Researcher­s found that the turn forces athletes to lean into the curve to stay upright, forcing them to keep their feet on the ground longer for stability. The research was published in the journal Sports Biomechani­cs.
